U3A Course: Geelong Botanic Gardens – a local treasure

Do you know your Gardens?  Geelong Botanic Gardens is one of the oldest botanic gardens in Australia.  Learn about its history, special collections, remarkable trees and the people who have made it all happen.  

This seven session course is presented by Volunteer Guides at the Geelong Botanic Gardens. Each session includes a guided walk in the Gardens to focus on the topic of the class. These include:

  • Orientation Session
  • History of the Gardens
  • The 21st Century Garden
  • Plants and Climate
  • Botany and Evolution
  • StormWater Harvesting and Irrigation
  • Trees (including the heritage trees)
  • Eastern Park Carriageways
  • History and Plantings
Topics may be adjusted to reflect new developments in the Gardens

 

 



Each session is 10.00 am - 12.00 noon and includes morning tea.

The course has run very successfully 2016 - 2023 with many participants joining the Friends and several  training to become Volunteer Guides in the Geelong Botanic Gardens. The course always fills very quickly.
